The flexibility of ARCOSYSTEM®, our elevated composite cable management system, ensured a successful installation along difficult terrain beside the Danube river in Austria.
The job was part of a sizeable rail infrastructure project at Grein an der Donau, a historic city located along the bank of the Danube river in northern Austria. An earlier section of the project, attaching the lightweight ARCOSYSTEM® to rock walls, was completed in 2022.
This latest job required a modern cable containment solution to be installed trackside, where several deep-rooted rusted steel blocks, believed to be remnants of an ancient retaining wall, presented access and installation complications along the route.
Due to its GRP construction, the composite cable management system ARCOSYSTEM® was chosen once again due to its practical flexibility during installation. The pultruded troughs and lids are lightweight for easy on-site handling, while the bespoke range of complementary steel brackets allows the troughing to be fitted to various trackside features at a multitude of angles.
In this instance, the ARCO troughing was securely fastened to the old ground-mounted steel blocks using a range of angled brackets, rods and bolts. The troughing was also clamped to rock faces and river bank railings at other points along the route, as well as being post mounted where appropriate.
Detailed measurements and drawings from the expert designers were required to fulfil the intricate attachment points, and the successful outcome was testament to how well the engineering team utilised the versatile bracketry in order to convert planning-stage drawings into tangible working fixtures.
The composite manufacturing process allows the ARCOSYSTEM® troughing to be not only lightweight, but also sturdy enough to carry cable loads of up to 90kg/m while providing continuous weather protection against the likes of corrosion, heat, water, freeze-thaw cycles, and many chemicals.
