Our ARCOSYSTEM® elevated cable troughing proved both flexible and sturdy enough to stretch across the width of a river without having to be fixed to the bridge railing.
The project took place in the town of Husum in northern Germany, close to the Denmark border. Suitable cabling for a railway needed to run across a river, but the cable troughing wasn’t allowed to be attached to the bridge railing, as would normally be the case, so our specialist installation team had to improvise.
The solution was to construct a substructure — effectively a makeshift bridge — for our ARCOSYSTEM® cable troughing to clamp on to. This substructure was constructed from three 6m lengths of HEA beam that were screwed together to bridge the gap. The manufactured 18m-long beam was supported either side of the river bank by 7.5m-long ram tubes driven into the ground.
ARCOSYSTEM® is constructed from glass fibre reinforced polymers (GRP/FRP) for long-term durability, making it resistant to heat, water, corrosion and UV rays. This composite make-up also ensures the troughing is lightweight, allowing for on-site engineers to make height and directional changes with ease and speedy installation.
As well as HEA beams, ARCOSYSTEM® can be attached to a variety of trackside features such as railings, valley slopes, noise barriers, bridges, and rock walls. It can also be post-mounted, spanning as far as six metres between support posts. Weather proof, ARCO carries cable loads of up to 90kg/m and offers a constant working temperature range from -40˚C to +80˚C.
